Traffic Panel Keeps EV Charger Rate At $5
The Waltham Traffic Commission kept electric vehicle charging at $5 per hour despite a looming cost gap.
Traffic Commission · Meeting of October 15, 2026
WALTHAM — The Waltham Traffic Commission kept electric vehicle charging at $5 per hour despite a looming cost gap. Traffic Engineer Garvin told the commission the rate would need to rise to $9 per hour to cover a $51,000 ChargePoint subscription renewal due October 28, 2028, but commission member Kelly moved to hold the price and revisit it in 2028, a motion that carried. Fire Chief Mullen confirmed the city is not currently losing money at $5.
Separately, the commission approved a warning sign rather than a flashing stop sign at Washington Avenue and Lowell Street after Councillor Harris cited a video of a driver who stopped, then "T-boned another car." The commission also tabled a long-sought pedestrian beacon for Moody Street, where a one-hour count found 446 crossings, directing staff to study whether it could fit near Spruce Street. Councillor Logan argued Moody Street is "one of the most pedestrianized streets with cars on it."
