Traffic Commission · Meeting of September 17, 2026

Waltham's Traffic Commission approved Phase 1A of a 283-unit residential development at 1000 Winter Street while directing staff to submit formal concerns to City Council about cumulative traffic impacts at full build-out. VHB's traffic study projected 1,270 daily vehicle trips with 112 in the AM peak hour and 106 in the PM peak hour, causing service-level degradation at multiple Winter Street intersections. The developer contributed $15 million toward traffic infrastructure improvements.

The commission converted Adams Street and Walnut Street to all-way stop control, approved new STOP signs at the Embassy Parking Facility and Mokema Avenue, approved electric vehicle charging station modifications with a new $5-per-hour overtime rate, approved a PayByPhone contract renewal increasing SMS fees to $0.25, and approved final traffic signal plans for the Main Street/Gore Street/Barbara Road/Warren Street intersection reconstruction.
