Historical Commission · Meeting of July 13, 2026

WALTHAM — The Waltham Historical Commission voted 4-2 to clear a 32 Cherry Street house for demolition and unanimously cleared the former UMass field station's Gray Building at 240 Beaver Street. Chair Mort Isaacson sided with allowing demolition, saying "the historic aspect of it is less of a factor than the streetscape," while Commissioner Maria Russo argued "we have to save some houses." The board also unanimously found a 96 Tower Road Sweetgreen site not historically significant and backed a roughly $37,101 Community Preservation Committee rehabilitation of the Corn Lab building on Beaver Street. Members separately approved fiberglass gutters for the Wellington House and heard that a Fernald campus relocation of city public works, fire and police operations could require demolishing the historic Howe Library and West Building.
