Zoning board approves variance for Hillcroft Road residential addition

Zoning board approved a variance for 61 Hillcroft Road to allow residential construction in setback areas.

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of May 5, 2026

WALTHAM — Zoning board approved a variance for 61 Hillcroft Road to allow residential construction in setback areas. The board voted 5-0 to grant the variances sought by Michael and Catrina Rueckwald, allowing their second-story addition to sit 21.7 feet from the front property line where 25 feet is required, and 14.7 feet from the rear line where 30 feet is required. The three-story structure exceeds the 2.5-story maximum in the Residence A-3 zoning district.

Direct abutters approved the project, and three audience members supported it, though Joanna Louden of 8 Hatherly Road opposed via email.
