Waltham Traffic Commission approves National Grid Felton Street gas line replacement with weekly police and fire coordination. The Felton Street work, which must finish by September 2026 ahead of a water main project, earned approval contingent on weekly meetings between National Grid, police, fire, and public works to coordinate traffic management. The Commission tabled National Grid's concurrent Main Street gas replacement, citing insufficient detail and traffic capacity concerns, and Mayor Jeanette A McCarthy criticized past National Grid projects for inadequate notification, torn-up traffic detectors, and parking lanes consumed by equipment.
The Commission also approved 35 free parking spaces for the May 30 STEM Education Festival at Embassy Parking, recommended a permit for the August 1 YMCA 5K road race, approved 2026 Moody Street outdoor dining with storefront-only restrictions, approved revised Elson Road parking restrictions with two buffer zones, and approved a new Gardner Street crosswalk at Gorham Street.
