School Committee Part 2 · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Waltham's School Committee closed the FY26 school budget with an $864,596.08 deficit after a 6-0 roll call vote on three internal fund transfers. The transfers moved a $2,389,902.41 personnel surplus, along with smaller equipment and special-items surpluses, into a $3,282,619.92 operating-expenses shortfall. Committee member Zange said the shifting figures "raise many questions" compared with spring projections, while staff said any supplemental request to the City Council would have needed to happen before July 1.
The committee also clarified that every FY27 line-item transfer, even within the same account, must come back for a vote, and separately approved removing the "Waltham High School" sign, dedicating the renamed building, and naming its west wing for Bob Eagle.
