Long Term Debt Committee approves first reading of $6.4M exterior renovation loan.

Long Term Debt Committee · Meeting of August 4, 2026

WALTHAM — Long Term Debt Committee greenlights first reading of $6.4M exterior renovation loan for Howe and Administration Buildings. Chairperson McMenimen recused herself; Councillor Durkee assumed the chair. The Mayor requested the first reading despite committee concerns about the scale of the appropriation relative to the $3.7 million purchase price of the entire parcel and uncertainty about interior building conditions.

Councillor Vidal asked to hear from experts and obtain additional information before September. The committee also unanimously approved a $270,000 Community Preservation Committee allocation for structural repairs at St. Mary Apartments, 88 Lexington Street, with no resident relocations planned during the project.
