WALTHAM — The Waltham Community Preservation Committee approved roughly $456,000 across three historic and community-need grants on September 22. Members voted 6-1 to award $320,000 for Gore Place's south-side window restoration, with member Thomas Creonte dissenting after calling the contractor's cost cushion unconvincing: "It doesn't give me a real warm, feisty feeling." The committee also approved $85,000 toward exterior repairs at the Community Day Center of Waltham's 20 Felton Street building, where Executive Director Chloe Rose described a shelter program she called "a life-saving service," and awarded First Parish Waltham an additional $50,788 after its original steeple contractor went unresponsive. Program Manager Julie Toole reported the committee's largest fund, Open Space, holds $1,172,795.96, while Chair M. Justin Barrett Jr. estimated the city's November state match at $400,000 to $500,000.
The committee also voted to close four inactive grant accounts dating to 2013 and re-elected Barrett as chair and Erika Oliver Jerram as vice chair.
