WALTHAM — City Council approves $8.6 million loan for 600 Main Street acquisition. The council granted first-reading approval to the Mayor's loan authorization of $8,640,291 for the building purchase, suspending standard committee-referral procedure on a voice vote. In other business, the council held three joint public hearings on proposed residential-commercial industrial overlay zoning districts and referred all three to the Ordinances and Rules Committee after hearing testimony, with 14 speakers favoring RCI-1, 14 favoring RCI-2, and 11 favoring RCI-3.
The council also approved a $1,296,507 Finance Committee appropriation for remaining FY2026 snow expenses and advanced a $10,536,466 police station design and OPM loan authorization to second and final reading, passing it 13-0.
